22nd of May is World Goth Day

The 22nd of May is World Goth Day. It started out a decade ago, in 2009 in the UK, as a segment on BBC Radio 6 celebrating Goth music.

The eclectic post-punk scene of the late 70's spawned a number of new genres including new wave, indie rock and gothic rock with its darker, haunting overtones, epitomised by legendary bands like Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and the Cure

A Goth subculture emerged in the early 80's with its own distinctive taste in music, and sense of style, which in turn has spawned many more sub-genres. Here are a few of my favourites, with links to music videos:
